Romans 10:13 “Everyone who calls, ‘Help, God!’ gets help.”

Kemi knew that God wasn’t a genie to grant her wishes but she really needed help and she didn’t know who else to call.  David had lent her his book so she could copy the science homework, but now she had lost it and it was almost time for class.  Kemi had looked everywhere and now fell on her knees and passionately whispered her prayer for help.  Ms. Mensah walked in to the class and called for the assignments.  Kemi’s heart sank as everyone got up to hand theirs in except she and David.  She slowly walked to the front when the classroom door burst open and Mr Kwatchey the janitor stepped in with the book held high.  Whew! That was a close call

God is always there for us and loves to give us a helping hand, whether its in an emergency situation or with a long term project.  This is one way we can make God a part of our everyday lives; asking for guidance and direction.  This helps us live the life God expects of us and we have no reason to panic in sticky situations

And call for help when you’re in trouble—
I’ll help you, and you’ll honor me.”

Psalm 50:15

When the going gets tough, Christians can relax once they’ve asked God for help.  It’s good know God’s got you.

Think About This

Has God helped you out when you’ve asked?  How did you say thank you?

Dear Lord,

I love the fact that You are always there.  It makes me feel safe and gives me confidence.  I’m glad that You are only one call away. Amen

Jeremiah 29:11 I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for.

Bless couldn’t see anything as she entered the room.  She put her hand out to feel what was in front of her; air.  Should she go forward? Move left, Go right?  She had agreed to this but suddenly Bless wasn’t sure anymore.  “Don’t worry Bless, I’m here.  I told you, I’ve got it all planned out.  I’ll walk you through it.” Slowly but surely Daddy walked Bless through the Father-Daughter Blindfold Maze.  Bless relaxed as she trusted Daddy to guide her to the finish line and to 1st place.

Sometimes we get lost in the minor details of life, but it’s such a relief to have someone who sees the whole picture guiding us to life’s end.  God made us and He knows why certain things happen to us and how we can get out of peculiar situations.  The problem arises when we don’t think God knows what He is doing or trust Him to bring us to our brilliant future.  We often think we know better and do things on our own but then we hit a wall and need to be guided out of the maze.  If you trust God you can walk through this life with your eyes closed.

Think About This

Can you trust God’s plan for you today?

Dear Lord,

It’s strange to say but please remind me that You know what’s best for me and that I should trust you always.  In Jesus name I pray.  Amen

Proverbs 3:5&6 Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own.  Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track.

Zzzzooooopppp!! Zzzzzzaaaaapppp!!!! Ppppfffffwwwwwhhhheeeewwww!!!!  Jody grinned in pure delight as the remote controlled helicopter whizzed through the air.  Up. Down. Left. Right.  Loop-de-loop.  This was pretty cool.  Jody could make the helicopter do just about anything and the best part was Jody didn’t even have to be in the helicopter.  Which was just was well; Jody wasn’t that small.  With the remote control though Jody could stay safe on the ground and yet do amazing things in the air.  Jody thought it was the best thing since sliced bread.

When you give your life to Christ and trust God to use the Holy Spirit to direct you, you sort of become like Jody’s helicopter.  God can do great and might things with you on a daily basis if you just trust Him and listen to His voice.  Nothing is too small for him to take an interest in and there is nothing so big that He cannot handle.  Every step of the way God will be there to encourage you, guide you and set you straight if only you trust Him with your life.

It’s not easy letting go of control, but try trusting God today with everything and see what happens.

Dear Lord,

Take my hand, lead me throughout this day.  You know more than I ever could and I trust you.  I give you the big things and the little things.  Let me live a God-directed life today.  In Jesus name I pray.  Amen

Psalm 119:71     My troubles turned out all for the best— they forced me to learn from your textbook.

Leo sat wide eyed as he listened to Grandpa tell the story of his life.  Grandpa had been everywhere, done everything and he said he even had the t-shirts to prove it.  Grandpa told Leo about the things he had done right and how he won prizes in school, but what awed Leo were the mistakes Grandpa said he had made.  Grandpa went to prison when he was in his twenties and stayed there for 5 years.  When Grandpa finally paused Leo asked him if he had regrets and surprisingly Grandpa said no!  Not even prison he said; he had learned valuable lessons from everything he did whether right or wrong.  It was even in prison that Grandpa met Jesus.

They say every cloud has a silver lining, that a lesson can be learnt from anything.  They also say a picture is worth a thousand words

Think About This

Make it a habit to ask yourself what you’ve learnt from whatever situation you are in.

Dear Lord,

Thank You for taking the time to teach me lessons in lots of different ways.  Help me to identify these teaching moments and to learn something new to glorify your name with.   In Jesus name I pray.  Amen

1 Peter 5:7     Live carefree before God; he is most careful with you.

Twirling, whirling, twisting, turning, Jenny danced with abandon like a leafy branch responding to the wind.  She was healed and out of the hospital, hallelujah!  Auntie Joe rushed to her side and cautioned her to be careful, but Jenny gave an impish grin and told her that God had healed her and was responsible for her.  Who was more careful than God?

There is a lot to worry about if you think about it; exams, work, money, friends etc.  But why would you want to think about it, dwell on it and allow it to make you anxious, depressed, angry or any other possible negative emotion?  The New International Version of today’s verse puts it like this

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

God cares that you’re stressed or sad.  He wants you to be filled with joy and love not sorrow and pain.  What do you have to do to be free of all that bothers you?  Give it to him.  You can even throw (cast) it if you don’t want to hold on any longer.  God assures us throughout the Bible that He is there for us, we just need to turn to Him.  Worrying doesn’t do us any good;

Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

Matthew 6:27 NIV

When we turn things over to Jesus, He takes care of all we need and desire.

God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us.

Ephesians 3:20

 Think About This

What are you worried about?  Why not give it to God?

Dear Lord,

There are some things that I know worry over even though I know it doesn’t make a difference except to make me sick and doubt You.  Please forgive me and help me let go of them and give them to You.  Teach me not to worry but to pray instead.  In Jesus name I pray.  Amen

Psalm 16:8     Day and night I’ll stick with God; I’ve got a good thing going and I’m not letting go.

Mary simply couldn’t stop preening in the mirror!  Her hair had never looked this good before; it was think and luscious and bouncy and ever so shiny.  She ran the brush through it one more time and reflected on the progress her hair had made in the past six months.  Mary used to be what they called ‘Brenya’; meaning it was tough for her to grow out her hair, but after six months of religiously applying the new hair product correctly she could now pull her hair up in a bun!  Yeah, she had a good thing going and Mary didn’t intend to stop.

No one comes to Christ and remains the same.  That’s the whole point of Christianity; we had changed from what God made us to be because we sinned – Christ works on us and in us to make us what God intended again.  The NIV Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:17

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come:

The old has gone, the new is here!

What you meet Christ the difference in you must be made clear.  Its not that you suddenly start wearing long dresses or stop swearing in public.  The change starts from within you and shines forth in everything you do.  This way the change is permanent and attractive to others

See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
    and streams in the wasteland.

Isaiah 43:19 NIV

When something works for you or makes a positive difference in your life would you change it?  With God I know I got a real good thing going on and I wouldn’t change it for the world!

Think About This

What difference has knowing God made in your life?  Who can see that?

Dear Lord,

When You came into my life all things were made new, bright and beautiful and for that I’m forever grateful.  Help me to live so that others might see You in me.  In Jesus name I pray.  Amen

Isaiah 41:10 Don’t panic. I’m with you.  There’s no need to fear for I’m your God.  I’ll give you strength.  I’ll help you.  I’ll hold you steady, keep a firm grip on you.

“Alright Chris, relax.  Just do what I tell you and you’ll be fine ok?  Don’t worry I won’t let go of the bicycle until you’re ready to ride on your own”, Daddy assured him.  Chris nodded and steadied himself on the shiny new tricycle he had gotten for Christmas.  Daddy told him to push his feet against the pedals so they would move and turn the wheels round.  Chris tried, but the machine wobbled underneath him.  He got scared and clung to Daddy, “I’m right here Chris, don’t worry I’ve got you.”

God’s got you. No matter what it is you’re going through in life remember this one thing – God’s got you.  Things may be tough at home, but relax – God’s got you.  You might be falling behind in your studies, there is no need to panic – God’s got you.  You don’t understand why you feel the way you do most of the time, chill – God’s got you.  A friend is counting on you for advice?  God’s got you both.  Never forget that God’s got you.

How can you be sure God’s got you?  Where does it say so in the Bible?

Dear Lord,

All throughout the Bible you remind me that You’ve got me, but sometimes I still forget.  Please help me remember that with You I am in great care and yes, You’ve got me.  In Jesus name I pray.  Amen
