1 John 1:9 On the other hand, if we admit our sins—make a clean breast of them—he won’t let us down; he’ll be true to himself. He’ll forgive our sins and purge us of all wrongdoing.
Guilt and palm oil were written all across Jayden’s face as Mummy questioned him on who had taken the meat of her soup pot. He wondered if he had a chance of getting away with a lie, but then remembered that Mummy usually knew everything and she probably knew about this too. With a gulp Jayden fessed up to pinching two big pieces of meat from the soup Mummy had put to cool on the dining table. Mummy sighed and said she forgave him as she wiped the oil off his face. She told Jayden that she was glad he had told the truth about it otherwise she would have had to smack him for being naughty and telling lies. Jayden was about to skip away when mummy handed him a sponge and soapy water with instructions to clean up the mess he had made on the table. Ah!
It is just so much easier to tell a lie and be done with things. At least for a little while anyway. The thing about lies is they always catch up to you in the long run and then the consequences are a hundred times worse. Yeah, you might get some flak when you tell the truth straight up, but whatever happens is way better than when you tell a lie. The Bible calls Satan the Father of lies (John 8:44) and God; the God of truth (Isaiah 65:16). Who would you rather hang out with?
Think About This
Think twice before you tell a lie. Is it worth it?
Please let my yes be yes and my no be no. Help me to remember that the truth pleases you but lies glorify the devil. In Jesus name I pray. Amen
Proverbs 3:5&6 Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track.
Zzzzooooopppp!! Zzzzzzaaaaapppp!!!! Ppppfffffwwwwwhhhheeeewwww!!!! Jody grinned in pure delight as the remote controlled helicopter whizzed through the air. Up. Down. Left. Right. Loop-de-loop. This was pretty cool. Jody could make the helicopter do just about anything and the best part was Jody didn’t even have to be in the helicopter. Which was just was well; Jody wasn’t that small. With the remote control though Jody could stay safe on the ground and yet do amazing things in the air. Jody thought it was the best thing since sliced bread.
When you give your life to Christ and trust God to use the Holy Spirit to direct you, you sort of become like Jody’s helicopter. God can do great and might things with you on a daily basis if you just trust Him and listen to His voice. Nothing is too small for him to take an interest in and there is nothing so big that He cannot handle. Every step of the way God will be there to encourage you, guide you and set you straight if only you trust Him with your life.
Think About This
It’s not easy letting go of control, but try trusting God today with everything and see what happens.
Take my hand, lead me throughout this day. You know more than I ever could and I trust you. I give you the big things and the little things. Let me live a God-directed life today. In Jesus name I pray. Amen
Psalm 119:50 These words hold me up in bad times; yes, your promises rejuvenate me.
PY had had a rather lousy day at school so far; he got all his sums wrong, was called out for sleeping in English class and just when he thought he had got the hang of things in robotics class, his robot crashed into a wall! And as though that wasn’t bad enough, his juice spilled when he opened the bottle at lunch. As PY reached for a tissue, to mop things up, a small piece of paper fell out of his lunch box. He picked it up and read what was written on it; “Keep your chin up Sweetie; you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. Love, Mum”. PY smiled; ok, so it wasn’t such a bad day after all.
Barnabas is my favourite apostle although you don’t hear as much about him as some others. His name means son of encouragement and boy did he live up to it.
When the church in Jerusalem got wind of this, they sent Barnabas to Antioch to check on things. As soon as he arrived, he saw that God was behind and in it all. He threw himself in with them, got behind them, urging them to stay with it the rest of their lives. He was a good man that way, enthusiastic and confident in the Holy Spirit’s ways. The community grew large and strong in the Master.
Sometimes though you might not have anyone around to encourage you, but that’s ok. Everybody goes through lonely times; even King David in the Bible did,
And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.
1 Samuel 30:6 KJV
That’s why God’s word is so awesome; it has everything you need to get you out of a tricky situation and through tough times

You knew all I would go through even before I was born and that’s why You left me such encouraging promises in Your Word. Please direct me to the ones I need at that moment when I’m going through difficult times. In Jesus name I pray. Amen
Psalm 119:71 My troubles turned out all for the best— they forced me to learn from your textbook.
Leo sat wide eyed as he listened to Grandpa tell the story of his life. Grandpa had been everywhere, done everything and he said he even had the t-shirts to prove it. Grandpa told Leo about the things he had done right and how he won prizes in school, but what awed Leo were the mistakes Grandpa said he had made. Grandpa went to prison when he was in his twenties and stayed there for 5 years. When Grandpa finally paused Leo asked him if he had regrets and surprisingly Grandpa said no! Not even prison he said; he had learned valuable lessons from everything he did whether right or wrong. It was even in prison that Grandpa met Jesus.
They say every cloud has a silver lining, that a lesson can be learnt from anything. They also say a picture is worth a thousand words
Think About This
Make it a habit to ask yourself what you’ve learnt from whatever situation you are in.
Thank You for taking the time to teach me lessons in lots of different ways. Help me to identify these teaching moments and to learn something new to glorify your name with. In Jesus name I pray. Amen
1 Peter 5:7 Live carefree before God; he is most careful with you.
Twirling, whirling, twisting, turning, Jenny danced with abandon like a leafy branch responding to the wind. She was healed and out of the hospital, hallelujah! Auntie Joe rushed to her side and cautioned her to be careful, but Jenny gave an impish grin and told her that God had healed her and was responsible for her. Who was more careful than God?
There is a lot to worry about if you think about it; exams, work, money, friends etc. But why would you want to think about it, dwell on it and allow it to make you anxious, depressed, angry or any other possible negative emotion? The New International Version of today’s verse puts it like this
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
God cares that you’re stressed or sad. He wants you to be filled with joy and love not sorrow and pain. What do you have to do to be free of all that bothers you? Give it to him. You can even throw (cast) it if you don’t want to hold on any longer. God assures us throughout the Bible that He is there for us, we just need to turn to Him. Worrying doesn’t do us any good;
Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
Matthew 6:27 NIV
When we turn things over to Jesus, He takes care of all we need and desire.
God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us.
Think About This
What are you worried about? Why not give it to God?
There are some things that I know worry over even though I know it doesn’t make a difference except to make me sick and doubt You. Please forgive me and help me let go of them and give them to You. Teach me not to worry but to pray instead. In Jesus name I pray. Amen
Psalm 55:22 Pile your troubles on God’s shoulders— he’ll carry your load, he’ll help you out. He’ll never let good people topple into ruin.
Audrey had been looking forward to this adventure trip all week and it was finally here! She had packed her backpack with loving care making sure she had everything necessary for the hike. She had even packed extra water because it was supposed to be a hot day. As they trudged on the hard rocky footpath, Audrey stopped admiring the flora and fauna around her and focused on how uncomfortable she was and how heavy the backpack was. Sweat rolled off her brow as though the liquid had been purposely poured there. She could barely lift one foot to place in front of the other. She decided to sit and let the others go on without her. Fiifi spotted Audrey struggling and lopped over. He didn’t have a backpack; just a water bottle. He offered to carry Audrey’s backpack for her; at first she resisted but eventually gave in. They walked side by side to catch up with the others. Audrey remarked how beautiful all the flowers, birds and greenery were.
Our lives are a lot like Audrey’s expedition. We start out with excitement and joy and then lose steam along the way. We stop seeing the glory that is God and instead fear, anger, anxiety, depression and sin fill our vision. Even when we try to get rid of them it doesn’t work; it actually gets worse.
Thank God for Christ! He promises to lighten our load in Matthew 11:28
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
New International Version
Once Fiifi had Audrey’s burden she no longer felt weighed down and could begin to appreciate the beauty around her again. That is the difference Christ makes in our lives. The sacrifice He made on Calvary took away all the things that drained us, lay heavy on our hearts and tortured our souls. This left us free, weightless and in a position to once more appreciate the glory that is God. You’re good people; God isn’t going to let you go waste.
Think About This
Where is your focus? Are some things still holding you down? Give them to Jesus; His arms are open wide.
I surrender all the things that hold me back and weigh me down to You. I choose from this day forth to focus on only You and the wonder that You are. In Jesus name I pray. Amen
