Romans 12:12.    Be alert servants of the Master, cheerfully expectant. Don’t quit in hard times; pray all the harder

Naana had a hard time with the daily text. It had a bright and optimistic view and She was not a chipper sort of gal. Naana put the Message Bible down and picked up the Amplified Bible. It was as though a light lit up in her head as she read the Bible verse; it had started to make sense to her.

“Constantly rejoicing in hope [because of our confidence in Christ], steadfast and patient in distress, devoted to prayer [continually seeking wisdom, guidance, and strength],”

Now here were steps she could follow; guidelines to keep her on track – a yardstick of sorts. Maybe all she had really needed was a change in perspective.

Do you always understand what you read in the Bible?  What do you do about it?

Dear Lord,

You are always talking to me; show me how to listen to you. In Jesus name I pray. Amen

“Is there anyplace I can go to avoid your Spirit? to be out of your sight? If I climb to the sky, you’re there! If I go underground, you’re there! If I flew on morning’s wings to the far western horizon, You’d find me in a minute— you’re already there waiting! Then I said to myself, “Oh, he even sees me in the dark! At night I’m immersed in the light!” It’s a fact: darkness isn’t dark to you; night and day, darkness and light, they’re all the same to you.”Psalm 139:7-12
Amerley crouched low on one knee as they assessed the situation. Things seemed safe there wasn’t any movement in her line of sight and no one else had raised an alarm so the other must not have seen anything either. Even though she knew this was only a game, Serious thoughts came to Amerley’s mind. She felt like the toy donkey they were ‘protecting’ from the ‘enemy ‘ on this training exercise. In her case though she didn’t need several protectors because God could see everything; God was everywhere. That was pretty cool, she thought. She was surrounded by the Lord of Hosts.

God is omnipresent. That means He is everywhere all the time. If we put on our best behavior on Sunday at Church because God is there, shouldn’t we be on our best behavior come Friday night when we want to have fun? A Christian’s life is consistent. God’s omnipresence isn’t meant to be a scare factor; having us constantly looking over our shoulders. It’s reassuring to know that no matter where you go or what you do God is right there with you. We often use the expression ‘Godforsaken’ but that expression is a lie; God never forsakes us.

Would you really want to live away from His presence though? God is the source of our very existence. What would life be without Him?

Dear Lord,

I’m so glad You are always there. Keep me forever by Your side. In Jesus name. Amen

“Now you’ve got my feet on the life path, all radiant from the shining of your face. Ever since you took my hand, I’m on the right way.”Psalm 16:11

Our time with God doesn’t end on Sundays, He enjoys our company on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays too. Sunday service isn’t meant to our entire spiritual experience; that is supposed to come from our daily communication with Him. What we get from Church should be our direction; an area of focus for a while, something to theme our daily interactions with our Heavenly Father. The path we have set on isn’t easy but it is blessed and rewarding. Enjoy the trip!

How do you make your time with God special?

Dear Lord,

Sometimes I forget that it’s the just Us time that makes the difference. Show me how to connect better with You on a daily basis. In Jesus name I pray. Amen

Matthew 10:29-31  “What’s the price of a pet canary? Some loose change, right? And God cares what happens to it even more than you do. He pays even greater attention to you, down to the last detail—even numbering the hairs on your head! So don’t be intimidated by all this bully talk. You’re worth more than a million canaries.

Millie blushed.  She didn’t think Joey had noticed her, and yet here he was; her shining knight!  Vera and her gang were dragging her over the daily coals about how small and unattractive she was.  Millie had almost burst into tears when Joey stopped by and shamed the girls for their actions.  He made Vera and the gang apologise and leave.  When they were gone Joey gave Millie a hug and told her she was perfect the way God made her.  They started talking and that’s how Millie got to know that important 6th former joey had noticed a trifling first year like her.knight-in-shining-armour

So many bullying voices speak to us each day. Someone tells us we’re not good enough, or smart enough, or pretty enough, or simply not enough almost every minute and we believe them.  That’s kind of sad.  God never says that about us.  There are a zillion ways He tells us how special we are; right from the story of creation where He opted to make man in His image.  Every day He does something new for us to remind us that we are precious and if we forget all we need do is read the Bible.  One verse that tickles the heart of a dear friend is the text for today.

She says it touches her to realise that despite all the major things God has to deal with each day He still has time for her.  It’s not rushed time; its time enough to count he hairs on her head, time enough to cater to her needs.  God has the time to even look after the tiny sparrow and she was made in His image; why wouldn’t He have time for her?luke_12-6Think About This

Knowing God’s eye is on the sparrow and that He watches over her; clearly spells out L-O-V-E to her.  What in God’s Word spells love to you?valentine.jpgPrayer

Dear Lord,

Whenever I am tempted, whenever clouds arise in my life, when the songs I sing give place to sighing, when all hope within me dies, please remind me to draw closer to You.  Your eye is on the Sparrow and I know You watch me so that from care You set me free.
In Jesus name I pray. Amen

John 14:6  Jesus said, “I am the Road, also the Truth, also the Life. No one gets to the Father apart from me.

Trees blurred into green fuzz as the car sped on eating the dusty, bumpy, red road.  Tosin sighed.  Going to Grandma’s house was so stressful.  When you actually got there it was pure delight; lush green vegetation, bright colourful flowers, fruits hanging so ripe and low you only had to touch them and they would come off into your hand ready to be eaten!  Grandma had soft downy beds that all but swallowed you up and convinced you that getting up was a bad idea.  But then the wafts of deliciousness from her kitchen promised such tantalizing, yummy food that you just had to get up.  Besides, Tosin always left Granma’s house a little richer.  She couldn’t wait to get there, but she had to.  It was a 10 hour drive and they had only done 2!  It was the only road to Grandma’s house, so Tosin stared out of the window and daydreamed about the feast Grandma was undoubtedly cooking up.

There are lots of things being said about religion and how to get to heaven but the Bible says there is only one way.  How to get there is outlined in the Bible.  Some say if you say certain things or make sounds, you will get to heaven, others say you have to live a perfect life to get to heaven.  There are some who believe you must die and live a number of lives before you would be good enough to get to heaven.  God says its not that hard; all you have to do is believe in His son Jesus Christ and accept Him as your saviour;

“Look at me. I stand at the door. I knock. If you hear me call and open the door, I’ll come right in and sit down to supper with you. Conquerors will sit alongside me at the head table, just as I, having conquered, took the place of honour at the side of my Father. That’s my gift to the conquerors!”

Rev 3:21

There is one way, only ONE way to Heaven and Christ is it.  The Christian journey is not easy and you might want to give up at some point, but giving up means missing out on the wonderful promise God has given us.

Is what I believe about Heaven and how to get to it in the Bible?JC RYLE.pngPrayer

Dear Lord,

Romans 3:23 For there is no difference between us and them in this. Since we’ve compiled this long and sorry record as sinners (both us and them) and proved that we are utterly incapable of living the glorious lives God wills for us, God did it for us.

Papa Yaw stared at his hands miserably and sighed.  He had done it again.  The last time he did it he promised Mummy he wouldn’t be naughty anymore and yet here he was.  Mummy walked into the room and saw Papa Yaw’s tearstained face and immediately pulled him into a hug.  She looked round at the disaster that had once been Papa Yaw’s room and swallowed her anger and disappointment; teaching Papa Yaw a different lesson was more important at the moment.  She wiped his eyes and told Papa Yaw how she got into trouble all the time when she was a little girl and how it was Jesus who helped her stay out of trouble even now.  She explained that everyone made mistakes, got into trouble and was naughty every now and then but that God still loved us all and forgave us when we went wrong.
hugging son.jpg

The same is true for all of us.  Nobody is perfect and the only way we can be is if you allow Christ to live through us.  That means reading the Bible ad doing what it says.  It’s not easy and we will make mistakes along the way but the great thing about life in Christ is;

If we claim that we’re free of sin, we’re only fooling ourselves. A claim like that is errant nonsense. On the other hand, if we admit our sins—make a clean breast of them—he won’t let us down; he’ll be true to himself. He’ll forgive our sins and purge us of all wrongdoing.

1 John 1:9

I’m glad I will always have a second chance to do what Christ says.

Is it fair of you to stay upset with people when they wrong you when you sometimes upset other people?psalm 103-12.png

Dear Lord,

Thank you for the gift of forgiveness to me even when I constantly mess up.  Help me to live the life of perfection in Christ Jesus my Lord in whose name I pray; Amen

Romans 6:23 Work hard for sin your whole life and your pension is death. But God’s gift is real life, eternal life, delivered by Jesus, our Master.

Everyone was happy, laughing and dancing.  There was plenty of food and drink and Bro. Kwaku was dropping those hits like it was hot!  It was a great night of celebration and everyone was having fun.  Everyone that is, except Auntie Sophia.  Elsie hugged her favourite aunt and asked what was wrong.  Aunt Sophia sniffed and said she was fine, but Uncle Eddie heard her and came over.  He told Aunt Sophia not to worry, she still had time to work out a comfortable pension for herself just like Grandpa had at his retirement; which is why they were partying.  Elsie asked what a pension was and Uncle Eddie replied that it was when you had saved up money to be used when your work life was over.  Sort of like getting to Heaven after doing all Jesus had asked of you.  Elsie thought it over and wondered what you got if you did what Satan asked instead.  “You become separated from God forever!” Aunt Sophia glumly told her.  Shivers!
retirement plan.jpg

It might sound scary, but that’s the truth.  There is a price to pay for every move we make.  When you do good you are rewarded and when you sin there is a punishment.  It’s not all doom and gloom though.  Jesus took our place on the cross, so that we wouldn’t have to die the way we should have.  Jesus’ death meant we were forgiven our sin and spared the eternal separation from God.

Take note though that this doesn’t mean we can do whatever we want.  The physical consequences of our actions still exist and we have to deal with those.  Thankfully we can deal with it due to God’s mercy and love.

 Think About This

Should you have to deal with the consequences of your actions even if you’re forgiven?  For example, after you confess your sin and have been forgiven should you still be punished for stealing?

How does this make a difference in your life?

Dear Lord,

Thank You that there is forgiveness in Christ.  Help me to learn from my mistakes.  In Jesus name I pray, Amen
