Luke 9:51.                               “When it came close to the time for his Ascension, he gathered up his courage and steeled himself for the journey to Jerusalem.”

He knew He was going into glory, but that the path lay through the cross. Often when we dream big and beautiful dreams of our future we don’t see the pathway to achieving that future. We see ourselves as professionally successful, happily married, parents of children, materially wealthy, sometimes even in heaven after judgement. We see these things and get excited, but we must also pause and look at the road to making those dreams a reality.

Christ assessed the situation, counted the cost and made His choice. Sometimes it’s a hard road to take and lots of people give up before they even start, but you have Christ. Even Christ needed to get Himself together to make the choice that changed the world. There is no shame in slow, careful preparation (Luke 14:28

He prepared Himself for the task ahead both physically and spiritually. Once you know what it takes and what is required, you actually need to make the effort. Christ didn’t wish Himself in Jerusalem and it happened; He sent out for a donkey to carry Him into the city. He stayed up all night in prayer at Gethsemane, so His Spirit could handle what lay ahead. Preparing for exams in secondary school, the Scripture Union would often admonish us to study like there was no God and pray like there were no books. May we learn from Christ’s example.

He was ultimately victorious; if we do same, won’t we also have victory?

Think About This
How hard do I want my dream? Is it enough to work for it the Christ way?

Dear Lord, Help me to follow Your path of hard choices and preparation on the road to victory. In Jesus name I pray. Amen
