John 19:26 – 27 “He said to his mother, “Woman, here is your son.” Then to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that moment the disciple accepted her as his own mother.”

Our God is an intentional God. He created the earth and all in it before He made man and placed him in the Garden. Nothing is done on an Ad Hoc basis with Him, not even the creation of Eve who came after man (male and female were created at the same time and separated later Genesis 1:27, Genesis 2:22) Take a look at how Christ entered Jerusalem; He had put logistics in place long before the disciples knew Jerusalem was on the itinerary. Intentional. So why didn’t Jesus make arrangements for Mary before the crucifixion?

I can only imagine that Christ wanted to address the issue of His mother’s care at that precise moment and that moment only. He was carrying the weight of the world on His shoulders, He had suffered immense physical, mental and emotional torture and could barely stand the separation of Himself from God, but that was when He wanted to reach out and make things better for His mum.

I pick up two things from this;

1. No matter what you’re going through help somebody else out; that’s what Jesus would do. Remember it was Jesus the man that hung on the cross.

2. In the scheme of things this was such a minute detail. John probably would have checked on Mary at some point anyway; he and Jesus were best friends. Despite the magnitude of what was going on this one thing was a big deal to the Almighty and He stepped in to take care of it. There are minute details of your life He is eager to take care of too, you just have to step aside and let our intentional God handle it.

Think About This

Am I in God’s way?

Dear Lord, Remind me that You always have a plan and that Your actions towards me are intentional. Even the small things matter to You. In Jesus name I pray. Amen
