John 19:25-27. “Jesus saw his mother and the disciple he loved standing near her. He said to his mother, “Woman, here is your son.” Then to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that moment the disciple accepted her as his own mother.”
Remember Jesus was fully God and at the same time He was also fully man. It is little wonder then that He would show concern for Mary, His mother.
On Mary’s part though; wow! She knew that the son would die right from His temple dedication and yet She didn’t try to intercede for God to change His plans. Instead Bible let’s us know Mary followed the ministry of Christ and even helped out.
A lot of us stare our missions in the face noting only the difficulties and we allow that to deter us from doing as required. We forget that God has an end game involving His glory. In as much as Mary felt intense pain seeing her son suffer and die so, she also believed in His mission and her part in it all. She would see it through to the end; thus Christ gave her support for when He wasn’t there; John.
We’ll look at this again from a different angle during Passion Week.
Do I allow challenges to overwhelm me or are my eyes fixed on Jesus?
Dear Lord, Please give me the steadfast dedication of Mary in all I do. In Jesus name I pray. Amen
