Romans 12:12.      “Be alert servants of the Master, cheerfully expectant. Don’t quit in hard times; pray all the harder. “

So how do you keep the fire burning? How exactly does one remain an ‘alert servant of the Master’? I’m not the most chipper person so expressions like ‘cheerfully expectant’ cause me to balk. A quick look at the Amplified Bible translation cleared my thought process.

“constantly rejoicing in hope [because of our confidence in Christ], steadfast and patient in distress, devoted to prayer [continually seeking wisdom, guidance, and strength],”

I can do ‘constantly rejoicing in hope better than ‘cheerful expectancy’. I’m overwhelmed by Christ’s sacrifice and the hope it gives me for eternity. It is the joy of this hope that makes it possible to remain ‘steadfast and patient ‘ in distressing, difficult times. But this can only be done if you consistently seek ‘wisdom, guidance and strength’ from God through prayer.

Romans 12:12 is a practical formula for working out Romans 12:11.

Think About This

Do you have a working plan for doing what God expects of you? How best can you use Romans 12:12?

Dear Lord, Thank You that Your words not only instructs but also guides. Help me to follow through. In Jesus name I pray. Amen
