Psalm 62:5. “God, the one and only— I’ll wait as long as he says. Everything I hope for comes from him, so why not? ”
Harry peeked out from under the covers and saw that the day was finally breaking. Great! That meant it was the morning of a brand new day. An exciting day; one that promised adventure in the world’s greatest adventure park – ziziland! Daddy had made the promise a year ago based on Harry’s good behavior and Harry had been good. He did his homework, helped around the house and even managed to stop fighting and be nice to Harriet; his sister. It had been a long difficult year but Harry had made it. He hadn’t gotten out of bed yet but he could tell it was all worth it; Daddy had promised it would be so.
It can sometimes take a while to receive what God has promised. Waiting isn’t something humans are very good at. We like to take matters into our one hands. Often in our bid to ‘help’ God along we totally destroy the wonderful gifts He has for us. On the other hand when we are able to endure (some Bible versions say ‘long-suffering; and it really does feel like we’ve been suffering for a long while) the difficulty of waiting and we allow God to do His thing, we become astounded by His grace, mercy and loving kindness.
As we wait though we’re building character. Joseph had to learn who to share dreams with before he got the justice he was seeking. He had to learn management first as a slave then as a convict before he could ‘rule’ Egypt. What ever you want is waiting for you to be ready not the other way around. It all belongs to God anyway so it’s not like we have reason to doubt Him. If God says wait then wait we shall; no matter how long it takes or what we must suffer through.
Think About This
Are you tired of waiting on God? Will giving up get you what you want?
Dear Lord, teach me Your patience I pray in Jesus name. Amen
