IN THE ARMY

“Oh! Teach us to live well! Teach us to live wisely and well! Psalm 90:12
Squad attention! Stand at ease! Turn to the left at 90 degrees; left turn! By the left quick march! Jayne was exhausted; they had been running drills all morning and her feet were sore. She was fed up with turn left and right and quick marching and boy did she hate standing at a attention! This was supposed to a weekend she could boast with, instead here she was taking orders from people she was older than who had no sympathy. Every time she made a mistake she got a small conk on her head. Just then Tessa leaned in and whispered, “How about you just do what they say Jaynie; things won’t be that bad”

Being a Christian is the toughest way to live your life. Sometimes you’re not sure how to react in a certain situation. Sometimes you do know the answer; you just don’t like it or want to do it. Sometimes it’s a pure refusal to accept what God says. Jonathan Swift once said “There are none so blind as those who will not see. The most deluded people are those who choose to ignore what they already know”

Being a Christian doesn’t have to be as tough as all that. Simply trust God and follow directions. God has even made it easy for us by giving explicit instructions.

But he’s already made it plain how to live, what to do,
what God is looking for in men and women.
It’s quite simple: Do what is fair and just to your neighbor,
be compassionate and loyal in your love,
And don’t take yourself too seriously—
    take God seriously.
