ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE

1 Corinthians 13:13 But for right now, until that completeness, we have three things to do to lead us toward that consummation: Trust steadily in God, hope unswervingly, love extravagantly. And the best of the three is love.

The boy looked hungry and tired as he knocked on the car window.  Ellie rolled the window down and let some of the cool perfumed air out.  She reluctantly handed him her egg sandwich and started to turn to tell Kofi how good a person she was when she caught sight of the beggar boy calling his friend over.  There was so much joy on his face as he gleefully shared the tiny sandwich with his friend.  Ellie wondered why he did just eat it himself; he was obviously very much in need of it.  Uncle Tontoh had seen it all and now he turned around in his seat and said to the children; “That is something special children.  In one move this young boy has trusted, hoped and shown love.  He may not have any money or things, but he is very rich in spirit!”

Things can get difficult in this life and it’s not unusual to want to give up.  For Christians though there is a way out; God has shown us how to survive in today’s text.  Trust steadily in God.  Believe that He is the great I AM and that His word is true.  That means you have to read God’s word to know what He says.  Hope unswervingly that you will make it, that all things are working together for your good as you love the Lord and have been called according to His purpose.  Hope means not giving up on your belief even when all seems bleak.

The best way to do this is to pray and let God encourage and strengthen us.  We are called to love extravagantly.  Sometimes that costs us; we’d much rather munch on our favourite snack than share, but that is love.  Love is putting into action everything the Bible teaches us.  Love is the best of the three, love is also the hardest.  Good thing is you don’t have to do it alone.  Ask the Holy Spirit for help and He’ll be there in a flash.

Think About This

When you’re kind to someone and brag about it; is it real love you’ve shown?

Prayer

Dear Lord,

Teach me to show real love and not the sort that gets likes on social media.  Help me to love others as You do.  In Jesus name I pray.  Amen
