Galatians 5: 22 & 23 But what happens when we live God’s way? He brings gifts into our lives, much the same way that fruit appears in an orchard—things like affection for others, exuberance about life, serenity. We develop a willingness to stick with things, a sense of compassion in the heart, and a conviction that a basic holiness permeates things and people.  We find ourselves involved in loyal commitments, not needing to force our way in life, able to marshal and direct our energies wisely.

Mama had sent Mary to pluck three oranges from the garden.  Mary was puffed up with pride; it was her first time harvesting produce from the garden all by herself!  She stopped in front of a tree and looked up at the fruit.  Shaking her head she moved on to the next tree.  She was looking for oranges, not mangoes.  Mary passed by a banana tree, an avocado pear tree and an apple tree.  Mary giggled quietly to herself as she spotted the almond tree; Nana Akosua called it Abrofo Nkatie.  Finally Mary spotted a round succulent fruit hanging low off the orange tree.  She had found it!  It was a good thing she had known what to look for.

With 7.4 billion people in the world you are bound to meet all kinds of people.  Some people will be like you and others will be so different that it becomes hard to understand them.  It usually takes a while to get to know what people are really like; there are people who have layers to their personality.  These people act one way when they are with family and another way when they are with friends and are different still when they meet new people.  It isn’t always so tough to know who you’re dealing with; there are some people with whom, what you see is what you get.  That is how a Christian should be.  But what exactly are you getting with a Christian?  Today’s text is the character make up of who a Christian is; who God expects us to be.  Do people walk away from you thinking you are an example of who a Christian is or not?

Think About This

Are you the same person no matter where you are?  Is that person a Christian as described above?  What can you do to be a better Christian?

Dear Lord,

Help me live so that people can see Christ in me.  In Jesus name I pray.  Amen
