Psalm 23:1 God, my shepherd! I don’t need a thing.
Lisa’s eyes lit up when her father gave her the bright pink package. It wasn’t her birthday or Christmas….what could it be? She eagerly unwrapped it and was delighted to discover a brand new Barbie watch! She had only asked for one the day before and now she had her heart’s desire.
Doesn’t it feel great when you get something you’ve been longing for? Sometimes though, it takes a while after you ask or doesn’t come at all. That can be a bit disappointing. Sometimes it’s hard for your parents or friends, to meet all your needs because of one reason or the other. As much as they would like to it’s not always possible.
Thankfully that is never the case with our Father in heaven. The New International Version of the bible tells us in Haggai 2:8
‘The silver is mine and the gold is mine,’ declares the LORD Almighty..
This means God has unlimited resources; He can give us whatever we ask for. Now it doesn’t mean that God is a genie who gives us wishes as we make them. God gives us everything we need and our heart’s desires in line with His will. First we need to be sure that we are right with God then we can ask for what we want. That means studying His word, doing what it says, talking to Him often and showing love to others. Some times when we ask the answer is yes, sometimes it’s not yet and there are other times when the answer is; not this. We see the answers to our prayers in many different ways; through scripture, friends, strangers, actually receiving physical items etc. We just have to wait and trust God.
Think About This
Are you doing what God wants you to do?
Have you ever asked God for something and you didn’t get it?
Why do you think that is?
Prayer
Dear Lord,
Help me to do what You ask me to do. May I become close to You so that I bring all my needs to You. Help me trust that You will always come through for me. In Jesus name I pray. Amen
